Chris’s Road Bike

Project Description

Chris came to Granule already having a lovely custom steel bike, but this one was to be quite different to his current classic, lugged frame. The process with Chris was fantastic as he had a clear idea about the overall look and functionality of the bike. We opted to go down the route of a wishbone rear triangle and dropped the height to run parallel to the down tube which give a little bit more comfort but doesn’t compromise on performance. Chainstays are slightly flattened too. Main triangle is Columbus Life and Spirit tubing with a 44id headtube that allows us to use tapered Columbus Futura caliper fork.

Being a fan of the SRAM e-tap groupset I’m always pleased to design a frame around this as it allows for such clean line. These are complimented but the paint scheme and components. Chris already had a scheme in mind and was all based around green being the main colour but was open for me to add some Granule “flavour” to the design. With stripes being the key element to his original brief I was keen to add something to this and make it different to just another stripe design. The broken line design is carried through from the forks to the seat tube and even a special design tweak to the top tube graphic which adorns each build we do. The rear dropouts are something new to us and something that Granule is looking to further develop and ultimately equip each bike with as we will be able to swap between QR and bolt-thru dropouts but maintain the same design aesthetic.
